All in all- I’m happy with my purchase.
Cons-
-It arrived with the carpet rubbed off down to the fiberglass on the most visible corner.
-The hole for the internal mounting bolt was about 1” off the mark so the product did not fit in my vehicle without modifications.
-Extra step in fitting the product into the vehicle that I don’t recall seeing in the installation tutorial video.
Pros-
-It sounds surprisingly good, for a small sealed enclosure.
-Product definitely lived up to the expectations of it being a “Boost Box” and boosting my stock stereo.
-Product looks nice and clean installed. Almost as if it was meant to be there straight from the factory. The upholstery matches really closely to my vehicle.
Opinion-
In my opinion, this seems like a pretty decent product. Is it going to win any competitions? Absolutely not. However, for a small, custom, space saving sealed enclosure it hits pretty good. Does it dig out the lower notes like a ported box would? Nope, but it still hits them (for the most part) but they just don’t create the same SPL as a ported enclosure. I have never been a fan of small sealed enclosures, but this one has left me pleasantly content with my middle aged dad car stereo. This product has surpassed my expectations as far as sound quality. I have it hooked up line level to a 1000w RMS mono block amplifier @1ohm.
-Install Issue Notes-
I had to drill a new hole in the appropriate place for the internal mounting bolt. I put a little dab of white paint on the end of the bolt and inserted the enclosure then drilled where the paint transfer mark was. Perfect placement on the first try. I then caulked the factory mounting hole to reseal the enclosure.
Once I had the hole in the right spot, the enclosure still wouldn’t sit in place like it was dsigned to. After a little investigating, it turns out that a little metal box, approx 4”x6”x1”, with factory wiring plugs attached was preventing it from seating as low as it should be. I unbolted the factory wiring box and it had just enough slack in the wires to move it just far enough to get the product to fit as it was designed to. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it did take me a little while to get things just right so it would all fit. I don’t recall seeing anything about having to do that in the installation instructional video. That being said, it may be something specific to my vehicle, 2017 Acadia Denali. I suppose it is possible that the vehicle they used for their video didn’t have this mystery box mounted there, or that I just missed that step when I watched the video.
Final Thoughts-
-If you’re looking to shake people’s windows as you drive past, this isn’t the product you need/want. If you’re looking to maintain maximum cargo space but still want to hear those low notes that you know are there but the stock speakers just can’t reproduce, this is a really sharp looking and decent sounding option. It definitely has “boosted” my enjoyment of my car audio experience and sacrificed very minimal cargo space.
